How LED Shoebox lights benefit your property

by Sam Q
  • Intro

LED Shoebox light, also known as LED pole light, parking lot light, LED Area light, or sometimes LED streetlight, is used to replace the old HPS light/Metal halide on the pole. Due to its energy-saving, cost-saving, high lumen output, and safety improvements features, LED Shoebox light becomes more and more common in the outdoor properties such as parking lots, pathways, or even backyards.

  • Benefits

There are many benefits of using LED Shoebox lights, including but not limited to 1. Energy saving  2. Cost saving  3. Long-lifespan  4. Enhance safety and security           5. Environmentally friendly  6. Easy installation. We will also break down these benefits in the following content of this blog.

  • Basic specification

Energy saving and long lifespan:

The common LED Shoebox’s driver is operated between 120V-277V in the US, while some of the uncommon drivers are 277V-480V, 347V-480V, 480V only or 120V only to fit the actual voltage of the property.

Usually ranges from 100W-500W, the LED shoebox light’s most common wattages are 150W, 240W and 300W. The usual lumen efficiency of the DLC certified LED Shoebox light is 130lm/W-155lm/W, making its efficiency around 2-3 times higher than the traditional high pressure sodium vapor (HPS) or metal halides, meaning it uses significantly less energy than HPS/Metal halides. On top of that, LED Shoebox light is designed to last at least 50,000 hours, 4-8 times longer than HPS/Metal halides which last only 6,000-15,000 hours.

  • Installation

There are many different mounts for the installation of the LED shoebox light (LED Parking lot light)

LED Shoebox light usually comes with slip fitter bracket. This type of mount uses a slip fitter bracket that slides over the pole or tenon (a smaller pole or arm attached to the main pole). The light fixture is then secured in place using set screws or bolts. Slip fitter mounts allow for easy adjustment of the light’s angle, making them ideal for achieving precise lighting coverage.

Besides the slip fitter, the direct mount is also common. The direct mount is mounting the light fixture directly onto the pole without any intermediary structure. The light is typically attached at the top of the pole, and the mounting is usually straightforward, making it a popular choice for simple installations.

Other common mounts include (but not limited to) Trunnion Mount (Yoke Mount) that uses a U-shaped bracket (trunnion) to mount the fixture, allowing for adjustable angles.

Wall Mount: The fixture is mounted directly onto a wall or vertical surface.

Bracket Mount: The fixture is mounted on a bracket that can be attached to various surfaces, including poles and walls. While there are many different other mounts besides the common ones mentioned above, please make sure the mounts and the LED shoebox light fixtures are from the same manufacturers just in case the light fixtures and the mounts are not compatible.

  • Enhance safety and security

When your property’s exterior is light up bright, your property will become much safer and crime rates will be reduced. Think about what differences are between a bright, clean parking lot and a dark, old parking lot. Furthermore, a bright and clean property can also increase the business sales and property value.

  • Environmentally friendly

No Mercury: Unlike fluorescent and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), LED shoebox lights do not contain mercury, harm gases or other hazardous materials, making them safer for the environment and easier to dispose.

Reduced Emissions: The combined effect of lower energy consumption, longer lifespan, and cooler operation means LEDs have a smaller carbon footprint over their lifecycle compared to other lighting types.

  • Cost

Given that LED Shoebox light is energy-saving, long-lasting and super bright, you might think LED Shoebox light (LED Parking lot light) is really expensive, right? The truth is, thanks to the decades of development of the LED light technologies, LED lights like LED Shoebox light (LED Parking lot light) have really competitive prices right now, even much better than the traditional old metal halides/HPS lights.
